Master of Education Degree with Teacher Certification
World Education Links (WEL), a one-year intensive teacher internship program, is designed to prepare competent teachers for a complex era. The program strives to instill a deep understanding of self and society in conjunction with the development of skills and knowledge requisite for creating an engaging and equitable learning environment for diverse learners. Social justice education provides the central theme of the program. Foundational learning about multicultural diversity and issues of equity as they occur in the world is intended to help WEL students gain new perspectives on their essential task as educators and to help them learn to incorporate lessons in global social responsibility into their daily work in the classroom in all subject areas. Approximately 20 applicants will be accepted.
- Summer coursework starts with a one-day seminar in spring, followed by a course of independent reading and writing and a week-long institute in mid-August. The WEL Orientation seminar for 2008-2009 participants will be Saturday, May 17, 9:30-3:30.
- The internship consists of four days a week 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in an assigned public school setting, beginning in late August and following the public school calendar through the end of the public school year in June. Actual dates and times may vary.
- Full-day seminars are held on the KSC campus one weekday per week and approximately eight to ten Saturdays during the fall and spring college semesters.
- Successful completion of the WEL program results in a Master of Education Degree and KSC endorsement on NH application for initial certification in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education.
