Major Milestone Achieved - 4-credit Proposal Approvals Complete!!
With the Senate approval of the Environmental Studies program’s 4-credit proposal on February 7, the faculty, the school curriculum committees, the senate curriculum committee and the College senators can take a breath and congratulate each other on completing a major curricular reform at Keene State College. We have moved from a primarily 3-credit curriculum to a primarily 4-credit curriculum. Kudos to all as we look forward to implementing what should be an exciting teaching and learning environment at Keene State.
Modern Language Requirement Revision Approved
On February 7, the Senate approved the revised modern language requirement. The minimal requirement for all students with a major in American Studies, Art, Communication, English, Film Studies, History, Journalism, Music, or Theatre and Dance is one course in a foreign language, normally French, Spanish, or German. Students should complete this requirement as early in their college careers as. Those with two or more years of recent high school study in French, Spanish, or German must enroll in 102 or above. Those with three or more years of recent high school study should enroll in 201 or above. Individual student placements will be verified on the basis of a placement test available to students before they register. Students may also satisfy the requirement through AP or CLEP credit.
Integrative Studies Courses
A milestone for the Integrative Studies Program was reached at the Senate meeting on February 7 as 46 additional proposals for courses in the fine and performing arts, humanities, social and natural sciences and interdisciplinary areas were approved for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Integrative Studies Program All Campus Meetings
Two all campus meetings were held on February 7 and 13 to discuss the Integrative Studies Program Guidelines. The committee received valuable feedback regarding the guidelines.
Perspectives Faculty Meet
The first meeting with faculty teaching perspectives courses was held on February 2. Faculty came together as a cohort responsible for delivering the perspectives courses in the Integrative Studies Program. They discussed the importance of knowing the work students were doing in the foundations courses, so that they could continue to build on and reinforce that work in their perspectives courses. The faculty also discussed the need to reassess their outcomes to determine which were primary and which secondary. This determination is important as we map program outcomes and begin to assess them.
